14.5 mm Safety Neck Sustainers

Wicks Unlimited manufactures and supplies 14.5 mm safety neck candle sustainers with increased neck height, enabling candle manufacturers to create tabbed wicks from waxed wick on reels. Since safety neck sustainers feature an extended neck height, the candle’s flame is snuffed out sooner during the combustion process. This unique feature reduces the chance of the candle’s container getting hot, especially near its end of life.

Our safety neck sustainers are manufactured from .010” (0.254 mm) thick tin-coated steel that helps inhibit corrosion and are preferred by leading candle manufacturers worldwide. The overall neck height of these sustainers is 14.5 mm and features a 15.0 mm base for easy gluing. These sustainers feature a wick insertion hole diameter of 3.0 mm.

Candle manufacturers can select two crimping options for in-house cut and tab production runs: puncture and non-puncture. The puncture crimp creates several small and one large piercing in the 14.5 mm sustainer’s wall while still providing a tight wick grip and increasing the crimp’s overall tensile strength. Wicks Unlimited’s proprietary non-puncture crimping option enables candles to “shut off” at the end of life and will meet or exceed all standard operating requirements for crimp hold.

Glossary of Terms

Yield

Measured in yards of wick per pound in weight. The higher the yield, the smaller the wick and the flame and the resulting heat generated.

ROC

The rate of wax consumption in ounces by the wick in one hour. The higher the burn rate the more wax which is being consumed. Used to determine how well a wick and wax combination is performing.

Chart Statistics

Chart statistics contributed by Atkins & Pearce. These statistics should be viewed as reasonable estimates for comparison purposes only. Actual results should be determined on an application by application basis. The chart provides only general trends and results may vary depending upon blend, color, fragrance, wax and shape/size of the container.
